Supplier Alliance for Microcredit

GVI CA enables corporations and organizations to supply funding and manpower to long-term sustainable development and microfinancing projects in the areas where these organizations trade to increase intercultural communications and understanding.

The Whole Planet Foundation Supplier Alliance for Microcredit (SAM) is a global alliance of natural food companies who are currently vendors to Whole Foods Market that share a desire to change the world, one entrepreneur at a time. The companies joining in this Alliance, Allegro Coffee Company, Balance Bar, Back to Nature, The Hain Celestial Group, Ito En, Naked Juice, New Chapter, Seventh Generation, Stacy’s and Whole Foods Market, have together pledged over $1 million to the mission of the Whole Planet Foundation with a goal of collectively raising a minimum of $2 million in funding for Whole Planet Foundation supported microcredit programs in the developing world. GVI CA was selected to manage the volunteer program for team members (employees) of the Supplier Alliance for Microcredit partner companies.

GVI CA is coordinating the SAM partner programs that include a 2 week community development program and a 4-day educational program for partner company executives. Both programs allow SAM partners the opportunity to learn about the Whole Planet Foundation, its interaction with in-country stakeholders, benefits of Whole Trade Guarantee and sustainable development initiatives through visits to Whole Planet Foundation’s local microlending projects and Whole Trade suppliers.

The Whole Planet Foundation is a Whole Foods Market non-profit aimed at reducing world poverty and the Supplier Alliance for Microcredit is a global alliance of natural food companies supporting their mission. GVI Corporate Alliance is a key member of that team and charged with coordinating the volunteer program for Whole Foods Market. So far, we have jointly developed programs in Costa Rica and Guatemala, with program plans in Honduras, Nicaragua and India. Other global supporting partners include the Grameen Trust and Global Giving.
